I’m happy to announce that I’ve found yet another craft I love. And it all came about really quickly and unexpectedly; which I guess is what can happen with real love. Jane and I were finishing up some last minute DIYs for my Fall Home Tour and we decided to make some personalized napkins by stenciling some plain white and pale blue bordered linen napkins for my rustic woodland tablescape.
The truth is, I normally don’t overly enjoy stenciling on furniture or any wood surfaces because the paint tends to bleed and I’m too much of a perfectionist to not care. We’ve done our share of stenciled DIYs, such as our refinished school chair and our upcycled beach-themed wood dresser, which in the end, turned out great! However, stenciling on fabric is a dream! The stenciled edges were crisp, the coverage was quick and consistent, there were no streaks, no mess ups. Just a bunch of dabbing with the paintbrush and it was all done!
I think I kept my cool but in my head I was thinking, “this is amazing! What other things can I stencil..perhaps a whole table cloth?, maybe my dishcloths?, an infinity scarf?, or maybe something onto a pocket of a t-shirt?”. My creative juices were just flowing!
There are so many possibilities with personalizing napkins by simply stenciling. We used just a small portion of our stencil so when you look for stencils to buy, consider all the different ways you could use it. Wouldn’t they look great with a monogram stencil, for example, or some other image that you love? Keep them for yourself or make them as a thoughtful handmade gift.
