Fall luminaries with mason jars
I don’t know what it’s like in your area, but in our area, it is stunning during this time of year! Seeing the leaves change colors and fall is spectacular. That is…until a wind storm comes and quickly takes the rest of the leaves off of the trees! I’m thankful for the time we have with the leaves turning colors though. Not only is it beautiful, but it provides so many crafty projects to create.
I know I’m not the only one who loves this time of year. I just want to bottle it up and put it in a jar. Fortunately, we can with this craft!
Every morning when I go for a walk, I choose some of my favorite leaves to to preserve. I lay them face down between layers of paper towel with heavy weights on top to dry fully. That way, I can use them for weeks, or even months, to come. I made sure to use only the ones that have completely dried for this fall luminary craft.

How to Make the Fall Leaf Luminaries
I shared the tutorial for making this fall leaf luminary, which you can catch on the Facebook live here. All of the step-by-step instructions can be found in the video so you can follow along!
Start by preserving the leavs for crafting using our step by step tutorial here.
Making a Fall Luminary
Make sure the glass jars are clean and dry and free of any oily spots. It’s often best to wipe the jars with rubbing alcohol before hand.
Start by brushing on a layer of Mod Podge directly on to one side of the glass jar.
Working quickly and before the Mod Podge dries, place on pressed leaf on top of the glued area. Press the leaf into the glue.
Next, brush on another layer of Mod Podge over top of the leaf and edges.
Continue with the other pressed leaves (from different trees and colors), working your way around the jar. Overlap the previous leaves for a layered finish.
Create a pretty lid for the luminary by decoupaging a paper napkin to the cap, glueing on some decorative flowers and then tieing a piece of twine with wooden beads around the rim.
We know that there are multiple ways to create this, and we would love to see yours! Tag us on Facebook or Instagram – we can’t wait to see it!
