Hanging DIY Mason Jar Lanterns

Filled with fairy lights, flowers and a simple frosted finish, these hanging DIY mason jar lanterns are a simple way to add romance to your home decor, wedding or bridal shower.

Romantic and Rustic DIY Mason Jar Lanterns

For many creatives, mason jars are a favorite craft supply to use, us included! From painting them in a chalky paint finish like this pretty mason jar pumpkin decor or using them as planters such as this rock adorned mini mason jar planter and this DIY succulent pineapple planter, the possibilities are endless!

Since upcycling a large empty pickle jar to create this frosted glass centerpiece elegant enough to include in wedding decor, we wanted to make some romantic hanging glass lanterns. When I get tired of the look of the fairy lights and faux florals, I can simply change out the decor and place some in season fresh flowers.

Materials Needed to Make These Mason Jar Lanterns

How to Make Mason Jar Lanterns with Twine

If needed, sand down any rough edges and surfaces of your wood pieces.

Paint the entire front surface and sides of the wood with the Relic paint. Let dry.

With sandpaper, distress the edges and surfaces of the painted wood pieces.

Add hanging hardware to the back of each wood piece, about 2” down from the top of the wood piece.

Attach the decorative hook to the middle front of the wood piece. Set aside.

Add some tape around the neck of the mason jar. Lightly spray the outside of the mason jar with frosted glass spray paint. Let dry.

Place the shorter piece of twine over the opening of the jar.

Wrap the longer piece of twine around the neck of the jar several times, covering the tails of the shorter pieces.

Tie the ends of the shorter piece together to create a hanging rope.

Place twinkle lights and faux flowers into the mason jars and hang onto the decorative hook. Hang the sconce on the wall.

Thank you! All this time we've been painting mason jars, when we could have also been frosting them:)
