DIY Elastic Book Bands

These DIY elastic book bands are a fun no-sew craft to make at home. It’s pretty simple as far as crafts go, all you need to do is cut out the pieces and then glue them together and voila, the elastic book bands are complete! I’m planning to use them as my families stocking stuffers for Christmas this year.

Since making this upcycled denim picnic blanket, I’ve been holding on to the scrap pieces of denim for other fun crafts. I also made this scrap fabric heart garland using the leftover scraps; which was later transformed into a pretty heart wreath for Valentines.

How to Make a No Sew Elastic Book Band:

Cutting the Pieces

Print off the pattern on a 8.5×11 sheet of paper.

Working one book band shape at a time, cut around each of the individual pattern pieces.

Place the pattern over the denim and cut the pieces out along the solid line.

Cut a piece of elastic 9” long for a smaller bookband or at 18” for a bigger elastic bookand. For the larger book band, you can wrap the elastic around twice.

Assembling the Elastic Book Band

Preheat glue gun. Glue the ends of the elastic on to the top side of one larger cut out shape, avoid twisting the elastic. Once glued, it will form a large loop.

Stack the remaining pieces so that the smallest piece is on the top rotating the direction for each layer and sandwich the elastic in between.

Hot gluing another heart over top of the elastic and other heart cutout.

Use the hot glue gun to glue the layers together in the center. Don’t need to use a lot of glue.

Wrap the elastic around a book or journal to hold your place and enjoy!
