Does anyone else connect certain scents to the holidays? When I think of winter and holiday time, I can almost go back to old memories and connect certain aromas to them. It is a great time of year to have candles lit, especially ones that have amazing scents!

Don’t go out and drop lots of money on candles though! If you want deep, rich scents at a fraction of the price consider using homemade candle recipes. These five are sure to not disappoint. Try the ones below and let us know which are your favorites!

Top 5 Homemade Candle Recipes for the Holidays

Materials
  

  • Glass candle jar 10oz
  • 2.5 cups soy wax flakes
  • Wick waxed and pre-tabbed with double-sided tape or a hot glue gun
  • Wooden dowel
  • Heat safe mixing bowl for double boiler method or microwave safe (for microwave method)
  • Mixing spoon
  • Large pot to use as double boiler

Buñuelos Candle

  • 30 drops of Cassia Cinnamon essential oil
  • 20 drops of vanilla essential oil
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon optional for decoration

Snickerdoodle Cookie Candle

  • 20 drops of Cassia Cinnamon essential oil
  • 20 drops of Nutmeg essential oil
  • 20 drops of Vanilla essential oil

Coconut Vanilla Shortbread Candle

  • 2 cups soy wax flakes
  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • 40 drops of Coconut essential oil
  • 20 drops of Vanilla essential oil

Citrus Crinkle Cookie Candle

  • 20 drops of Orange essential oil
  • 20 drops of Lemon essential oil
  • 20 drops of Vanilla essential oil

Peppermint Sugar Cookie Candle

  • 25 drops of Peppermint essential oil
  • 25 drops of Vanilla essential oil
  • 10 drops of Mandarin essential oil
  • candle wax colorants – red and green optional

Instructions
 

  • Using a double boiler or microwave, slowly melt the soy wax until just melted. Mix the
  • melting flakes occasionally until it forms a liquid. Remove from heat.
  • Prepare the candle j ar. Stick the wick tab at the bottom center of the jar using a piece of
  • double-sided tape or a dab of hot glue.
  • Wrap and tape the long end of the wick around a wooden dowel and rest the dowel
  • across the top of the jar.
  • Add essential oils to the melted wax and stir.
  • Slowly pour the wax into the prepared jar leaving about ¼” space at the top of the jar.
  • Reserve a small amount of the wax for step 7.
  • Leave the wax to cool and set completely.
  • If needed (surface of the set candle is uneven), melt a small amount of the reserved wax
  • and pour onto the surface of the candle.
  • Once wax has set, cut the excess wick ¼” from the top of the candle.
