What Is A Charger Plate And How Do I Use One?
A charger plate, also known as a service plate, is a decorative plate that is used in formal dining events. It is typically larger than the dinner plates and acts as an elegant base for the main dish. Charger plates are placed under each diner’s plate and are removed before the main course is served.
Using a charger plate not only adds an extra touch of style to the table setting but also serves a practical purpose. It helps protect your tablecloth or table from spills and keeps your dinnerware stable.

How to Make a Valentine’s Day Charger Plate Craft
I shared the tutorial for this Valentine’s day charger craft on a Facebook live which you can catch here. Or if you prefer the photo tutorial, continue reading below.
Paint the charger with white paint (this will show through the crackle.) Let dry completely.
Paint a generous coat of school glue onto the charger. Let dry until TACKY (the glue needs to still be wet for the paint crackle finish to form).
While the glue is still tacky, brush the red paint color over it.
Allow the paint to air dry, or use an air gun to speed up the drying. As the paint dries, the crackle finish will form.
Let the paint and glue dry completely. This may take several hours depending on the thickness of the glue. In the meantime, cut a circle out of the cardboard and dry brush a bit of white paint over it.
Next, hot glue your wood heart, cardboard and love phrase onto the charger plate.
Add a bow and any embellishments and your Valentine’s day charger plate is done!
