  • White taper candles (colored taper candles can also be used)
  • Acrylic paint in any colors of your choosing – the colors used are mentioned below under eah of the different desin style options
  • Fine tip paint brush

How to Hand Paint Candles for Girls Night

Hand painted candles can be customized with flowers, patterns, names, or seasonal designs, making them great for home décor or small handmade gifts. In this project, you’ll learn how to paint candles step-by-step, what supplies work best, and a few easy design ideas even beginners can try. Set up some snacks, pour some drinks, and enjoy a creative evening together.

Painting Delicate Rosettes

  • We used Crafts Smart Acrylic paints in Light Pink, Pink, Lush Foliage and a dakrer shade of Lush Foliage Green

Using a fine tip paintbrush, paint a circle about 3/8” in size in the darker shade of pink. Paint additional circles near the first circle to form a cluster.

In a lighter pink, paint a swirl within each of the painted circles.

Added lighter pink into the middle of the painted circles.

Next, paint the foliage in pairs around several of the rosettes in the darker green and then add a touch of lighter green over top.

Continue painting as many rosettes around the candles as desired. Leave the paint to dry fully.

Painting Sweet Minimal Hearts

  • We used Decoart Americana Acrylic Paint in True Red

Using a fine tip paintbrush, apply two small red dots and then connect at an angle to form a heart.

Painting Intentionally Imperfect Abstract Lines

  • We used DecoArt Crafter’s Acrylic paint in Black

To create this fun, modern abstract dalmatian pattern, keep inmind anything goes!

Using a fine tip paintbrush, apply unevenly shaped and sized dots all over the pillar candle.

Add a second coat as needed and smooth out the outer edges.

Design Variations

In addition to the above design ideas, try painting simple flowers, leaves, abstract brush strokes or even polka dots.
