Card making was always one of my favorite crafts and to this day I love to make (and receive) handmade cards. If you’re the same way or are just new to card making, than this is one way to make your own DIY cards that are sure to impress!
These handmade greeting cards are perfect for just about any occasion, whether it’s for a birthday, baby shower, mother’s day or just as a thank you note. Shown here are the clownfish, seahorse, conch seashell but the template includes seven additional beach inspired patterns to choose from. They were originally intended for making these no-sew felt ornament patterns but can easily be used for other creations! Using paper instead of felt and changing out the colors as you like, gives them a completely new look and different purpose.
For more paper crafting options, head over to our free printables page; which includes a bunch of different nature-inspired templates for making note cards, place cards, gift tags and other fun and free printable art.
Supplies Needed:
“Disclosure: This post also contains affiliate links (indicated with *) for your shopping convenience. You find our full disclosure here.”
- Ocean Life Felt Ornament Pattern (is available for purchase on our Etsy shop)
- Cardstock paper (heavier weight than regular sheet paper) – for these, I used white, cream, teal and gray pastel colours but you can select any color
- Scissors (or a paper cutter or alternatively a Cricut)
- Craft Glue, clear
- Double sided tape
- Sequins (optional)
- Pop Dots Adhesive (optional to achieve 3D effect)
Instructions for Making DIY Cards:
Print out the patterns from the ocean inspired no-sew felt pattern template on regular paper. Use the pattern to cut out the individual pieces using cardstock in the colors of your choosing.
Glue the individual pieces together using double sided tape and/or craft glue following the instructions in the template.
To create the base of the note card, cut the cardstock paper to 5 ½” x 8 ½” size.
Fold paper in half lengthwise and form a crease along the folded edge. Alternatively, you can use a paper cutter with a scorer to form the crease.
Attach it to the front of folded card using double sided tape, glue or spacers for a 3D effect (like I did here). These are just some left over rubber stamp clippings I had from my scrap booking days:)
Repeat these steps to create as many cards as you like. You can purchase the right sized envelopes here or stay tuned for a video we’ll be sharing soon on how to make your own envelopes. And there you have it, your beautiful beach-themed notecards are ready to go! Make a bunch in advance so you’re never without when you need them.
These cut outs also make adorable gift tags, instructions on those coming soon in an upcoming post.
