A Natural Skin Healing DIY Body Butter

I don’t know about you, but the combination of constant hand washing, cold weather and dry air this time of year has been tough on my skin. I am always on the lookout for a natural moisturizer to soothe my dry and itchy skin.

Luckily, this month’s Simply Earth box is all about loving your skin! It’s filled with goodies for making non-toxic skin care using natural ingredients such as a Rose Hydrosol Bath recipe, Clay and Rose Face Mask, a Veins Sugar Scrub, and an Alert Roll-on. You’ll love trying the essential oils in this month’s kit which includes coffee, fir needle, frankincense and a veins blend.

To make the body butter, you’ll need to use the veins essential oil blend which is made up of cypress, juniper berry and lemon essential oil. It helps to increase blood flow to hands and feet, while also helping to reduce spider veins (bonus!).

To make the DIY body butter I also needed to use some ingredients from the Big Bonus Box we received when we first signed up with Simply Earth. Use our coupon code SMCHFREE to get your own Big Bonus Box with your first order. You’ll also get a $40 e-gift card which you can use towards a future purchase.

Ingredients Needed

  • 1/2 cup Coconut Oil (solid)
  • 2 tbsp Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • 50 drops Veins essential oil
  • 1 tsp French green clay
  • Small jar or air-tight container

How to Make DIY body Butter

Melt solid coconut oil in a microwave (go slowly, in 15 second increments).

just melt the coconut oil

Once the oil has just started to melt, add fractionated coconut oil and veins blend essential oil. Stir to combine.

add 50 drops of veins blend essential oil

Add clay to the mixture and whisk together. The gentle green clay helps to detox, revitalize and nourish the skin.

Leave the mixture to cool and when it becomes semi-solid use an electric mixer to whisk the mixture for 3-5 minutes or until the body butter has become pale and creamy. I found after 30 minutes of sitting at room temperature, my mixture was still too soft so I put it in the fridge for 30 minutes keeping it covered.

Once whipped, place the mixture into an airtight container and store for up to 3 months in a cool, dry location.

store the body butter in an air tight container for up to 3 months

To use, apply sparingly to dry hands and feet, a little goes a long way. The body butter almost melts in your hands as you apply it. It feels a bit oily so I personally keep my body butter next to my bed and apply just before I call it a night. In the morning, my hands and feet feel so soft and nourished!
