Out of all of the items we have upcycled or repurposed over the years, this is the first time I have made a fishbowl centerpiece! So if you are on the hunt for fishbowl centerpiece ideas, this is a simple and awesome DIY option to go with.
Fishbowl centerpiece ideas lie in the details
What makes this fishbowl centerpiece great is the detail that comes from doing decoupage (or mod podge). We do this with decorative paper napkins which gives it a great seasonal feel. However, you could also do this with napkins for any season or have a year-round fishbowl centerpiece as well!
Make sure to check your local thrift stores, or your dollar store, being buying a fishbowl vase. You may be surprised by what you find- and the price can’t be beat!

How to Repurpose a Fishbowl Centerpiece for Winter
I shared the tutorial for this centerpiece tray on a recent Facebook Live which you can catch here. Or if you prefer the photo tutorial, continue reading below.
Open the napkin and separate the layers keeping just the top printed layer and discarding the other ply. Then take a fine tip paint brush, dipped in water and trace the outline of the design and gently tear the excess of the napkin off. You can also cut around the image but the tearing gives the design a gradual finished edge.
Paint a section of the fishbowl vase, just a bit bigger than your cut napkin image. Let dry.
Brush on a layer of decoupage to the white paint and glue your napkin image over top. Gently press the paper and continue until the surface is covered.
Lightly brush on a top layer of decoupage over top of the napkin.
Gently spray faux snow over the edge of the napkin. Allow to dry.
To Make a Decorative Driftwood Snowman Pick
In the meantime paint a piece of driftwood white for a snowman. Using a fine tip paintbrush, paint a face onto the snowman and attach a ribbon as a scarf.
Assembling the Fishbowl Centerpiece
Next, cut floral foam to fit into the fishbowl and hot glue into place.
Arrange your faux flowers into the floral foam and cover with faux snow. Finally add some twinkle lights and enjoy!
We placed our fishbowl centerpiece on top of our upcycled centerpiece tray for Winter; which you can find the how to instructions for as well.
