Hi creative friends! Today we’re crafting some lovely Winter decor using inexpensive jumbo sized popsicle sticks, a bit of soft muted green paint and pretty decorative embellishments. We’d love to hear what you think of this simple wooden craft stick idea!
From Popsicle Sticks to Winter Decor
Ever since we made this miniature adirondack chair for a beachy terrarium, we were hooked on popsicle sticks crafts. These jumbo sized wooden sticks can be found at any craft store and at most dollar stores making them a really convenient and inexpensive craft supply.
Join our crafting community to sustain your craft habit with nature-inspired DIYs and upcycled craft ideas. It feels good to repurpose, upcycle and create with nature!
As for the embellishments, we used whatever we found in my craft room, things like pine cones, felt flowers, faux greenery and driftwood buttons. But you of course could use anything you have at home such as faux or paper flowers, bows, regular buttons and so on!

How to Make a Jumbo Popsicle Stick Decorative Sled
We shared the tutorial for making this popsicle stick sled craft on a recent Facebook Live which you can catch here.
To start, measure, mark and cut two jumbo popsicle sticks 5 1/2” long and three at 5” long. Leave two remaining popsicle sticks at full length.
Paint the surface of the popsicle sticks in two shades of green. Leave the full length popsicle sticks unpainted.
Once dry, assemble the pieces into a sled. Lay the shorter popsicle sticks facing down on a flat surface with cut edges lined up and longest pieces in the middle.
Glue the shortest sticks across the back side to hold all the pieces together.
Glue the long unpainted popsicle sticks along the length of the sled on both sides. This become the “skis” of the sled. Lastly, glue the final piece across the front of the sled to complete.
Adding the Embellishments
Now for the fun part (in my opinion), adding the decorative embellishments. Glue a piece of greenery, mini pinecones, buttons and a felt flower along the bottom of the sled in a cluster as shown.
Tie a 10” long piece of twine to the front of the sled and add a mini Winter charm if you have it.
The Many Things to Make with Popsicle Sticks
Honestly, who knew there were so many wonderful things to make with popsicle sticks! I always thought my sister was a little bit crazy when she kept the sticks from her kid’s popsicles. Now that I look back at all the creative ways we’ve used those sticks over the years, it makes so much more sense why she held on to them!
