Add some adorable Valentine’s Day decor with a pair of sweet no-sew hanging gnomes this year following this simple project idea using felt sheets, yarn and of a wooden bead.
Crafting Valentine’s Day Gnomes
As silly as they are, I love displaying decorative gnomes in my home thoughout the year. They are fun, playful and just make me smile as I pass by them. And since I enjoy my Winter-themed gnomes and so much, I thought why not make a pair for Valentine’s Day?

How to Make Gnomes for Valentine’s Day
To make these sweet little gnomes, I followed the same initial steps as these no-sew gnome ornaments I made last year EXCEPT for these minor differences:
- Since ‘m using a thinner yarn and additionally, I want a longer gnome beard, I wrapped the yarn around a large coffee tin (instead of my hand) and I also wrapped the yarn 100 times (instead of just 50).
So when you go to make your gnoms, consider the thickness of the yarn and wrap the yarn accordingly. You could always wrap more afterwards if you need to.
Once the gnome is assembled according to the gnome ornament instructions it’s time to decorate him! Cut out two identical sized hearts in felt out of any color of your choosing. I used a combination of dark grey, hot pink and light ecru.
Join the two heart shapes with a simple blanket stitch along the outer edges and just before closing it up, fill the heart with a bit of polyester batting. If you’re not sure how to do a blanket stitch, you can simply glue the outer edges together or follow along to this YouTube tutorial.
Layer on some more felt hearts and then glue a smaller decorative bow in the center.
Place and glue the heart on to the gnomes hat either in the center of slightly off center as with the pink gnome.
Hang the finished gnomes on the wall or on a door knob to enjoy for Valentine’s Day. I couldn’t help but lay my little gnomes on top of my “home sweet home” framed art for some fun play on words. Now that these are ready for Valentine’s Day, I’m inspired to make a Spring themed gnome craft too!
