If you are looking for small shadow box art idea, this is a romantic piece that you will not want to miss. Surprise someone with this elegant flowery swinging bench using a crackling technique, paint, and popsicle sticks inside an upcyled frame.
Small Shadow Box Art That Is Easy to Make!
I found the shadowbox frame that is in the pictures at a local thrift shop. It was only $0.75! Of course, the glass was missing, but we don’t need the glass to make this beautiful shadowbox art. Before you do this project make sure to check out your local thrift store; it could save you a lot of money.
For the beautiful teal bench, I am pretty sure that I used popsicle sticks from my kids instead of craft sticks. Either one work for this project, but if you have kids always save those popsicle sticks- once you paint over them, you’ll never see the color stains again. Having a cute box, or even a Ziploc bag, to store your popsicle sticks in will guarantee that you always have some craft sticks on hand when the time is right.

How to Make A Romantic Small Shadow Box
I shared the tutorial for making this romantic shadow box craft on a recent Facebook Live which you can catch here.
The first part you will want to do is the crackle. Place the glue on the frame and start painting it before it completely dries. You can choose to dry it a bit, but don’t have it completely dry.
Then use white paint to paint over it to create the crackle effect. I wanted to get more on the frame than the background. As it dries, the crackle effect will appear. Just give it some time!
Next, you will make your bench out of craft sticks or popsicle sticks. Watch the video for the step by step photos. I made my lil’ swinging bench about 4″ wide to fit inside the frame.
Paint the bench in any color of your choosing and let it dry before assembling the art piece.
Now it is time to add the beautiful flower transfer into the background.
And lastly, assemble all the pieces into the frame starting with the winging bench and then layering in the twigs and faux florals as an arch over the swing.
There you have it, your beautiful and romantic small shadow box art craft. Wouldn’t you want to sit underneath this flowery arch? I think I need a full size one! Make sure to show us how yours turns out! Tag us on Facebook or Instagram– we can’t wait to see it!
