Grab some leftover scraps of wood and some calming blue and green paint colors to make this super easy and fun beach-themed scrap wood house craft.
Crafting with Scrap Wood
Going through some leftover lumber we had sitting in the garage from previous home DIYs, I found several 2×4 pieces of wood. Using a miter saw, we cut them into smaller blocks about 5″-6″ high and then added angular cuts on one end to mimmick roof lines. The cuts were not perfect or symmetrical but that only added to the overlay charm of this craft!

How to Make Easy Beachy Scrap Wood Houses
We made these beach scrap wood houses on a recent Facebook live which you can find here.
To start, paint the wood house shapes in any color of your choosing and let them dry. We love using these Decoart Vintage Effect Wash paints in Turquoise, Patina and Green for any coastial inspired crafts we make.
Once dry, use a fine tip brush to paint ‘windows’ and ‘doors’ with white paint on the wood shaped houses and let them dry. You can also use a white paint pen to make the same effect.
Afterwards, paint the ‘doors’ along with the roof lines of the houses in a different contrasting color and let the paint dry.
For a beach village centerpiece, take some sand and spread it on the bottom of the wood tray. Then place the wooden houses in the tray along with some small rocks, seashells and even sea glass.

Instructions
- Paint the wood house shapes and let them dry.
