A cold winter day is the perfect time to get out those rock painting supplies and get crafty!
Materials Needed for Painted Penguin Rocks
- Decoart Multi Surface Satin in Black Tie, Steel Grey, Cotton Ball, Orange Sherbet
- Paintbrush – ½” flat paint brush and angled fine tip paint brush
- Set of 3 rocks (largest rock to measure 3” long), all in differing shapes and sizes and all with a smooth surface
Tips for Painting your Penguin Rocks
- Protect work surface with a sheet of newspaper or parchment paper.
- Wash the rocks and let them dry completely before painting.
- Allow paint to fully dry between steps and when changing to a new color.
- Repeat with as many coats as needed to achieve desired coverage.
Instructions for Painting Rock Penguins
1. Using a flat tipped paint brush, paint the top side of the rock in Cotton Ball (mom and dad) and Steel Grey (baby).
2. Using an angled fine tip paint brush, paint the surrounding shape of the penguin in Black Tie as shown.
3. When happy with the shape, paint the perimeter and back side of the rocks fully in Black Tie.
4. Using a fine tip paint brush, paint a small upside down triangle in Orange Sherbet for the nose.
5. Paint two small rounded rectangular shapes in Orange Sherbet for the feet.
6. Dip the back end of your fine tip paint brush in Black Tie and dab the end on to the rocks for the circular shaped eyes.
That’s it! You’ve just created an adorable penguin family.
