Lighthouse Craft with Clay Pots
This lighthouse craft made with clay pots brings a touch of the seaside to your home or garden without needing sand between your toes. Using simple supplies and a little creative flair, you can turn basic terra cotta into a beautiful lighthouse sculpture that looks great indoors or out. It’s a relaxing weekend project, ideal for crafters of all skill levels.

There’s something timeless and comforting about the glow of a lighthouse. Whether it’s memories of coastal holidays, a love for nautical décor, or just the peaceful vibe that lighthouses give off, recreating that feeling in miniature form is both fun and rewarding.
Why You’ll Love Making Your Own Clay Pot Lighthouse
This project strikes the perfect balance between creative freedom and straightforward construction. There’s plenty of room to play with colours, patterns, and textures, whether you’re going for traditional red-and-white stripes or something more modern and minimalist.
It’s also a satisfying way to repurpose clay pots you already have—or a great excuse to pick up a few the next time you’re at the garden centre.

Adding Charm to Home and Garden
Once finished, your lighthouse can add charm to so many places. Tuck it into a flower bed for a surprise coastal detail, or place it by your front door as a welcoming piece of decor. It looks great on patios, balconies, windowsills, or even indoors on a console table or bookshelf. Add a small LED light at the top for an extra glow in the evenings, especially if you’re using it outside.
This project makes a thoughtful gift, especially for anyone who loves the sea, sailing, or coastal décor. Wrap a finished lighthouse in cellophane with raffia and a seashell tag for a coastal-inspired present that’s as charming as it is personal. They work well as housewarming gifts, retirement tokens, or even wedding decorations with a beach theme.

You could also customize them with initials, coordinates of a favourite seaside location, or a meaningful date painted along the base. For teachers, neighbours, or garden club friends, a handmade lighthouse adds a special touch they’ll remember.

How to Make a Lighthouse Craft with Clay Pots
I shared the tutorial for how to make this lighthouse craft on a Facebook live which you can watch here. Or if you prefer the photo tutorial, continue reading below.
Start by painting 2 pots white and letting it dry.

Paint the remaining pots, and the bases, blue.

Using the smallest pot, paint yellow around the middle and outline with black paint to create windows. This will go on the top as the lantern room.

Using a thin brush, paint a door and windows on the remaining pots.

Add glue to the inside edge of the pots and stack them together upside down with the largest pot at the bottom. Glue the small pot right side up and add a larger base on top.

Finish by placing on top of a wood round and wrapping twinkle lights around it.

A Craft That’s as Relaxing as a Walk on the Beach
Whether you’re creating just one lighthouse or a whole shoreline’s worth, this project is simple, relaxing, and full of possibilities. It’s a chance to slow down and enjoy crafting something beautiful with your hands—no waves or sunscreen required. Once it’s done, your little beacon of light will be a reminder of calm seas, summer days, and the joy of making something yourself.
