How to Make a Personalized DIY Nightlight with xTool P2
Here is a step-by-step video of how to make a personalized nightlight! If you prefer the photo tutorial, continue below.
Using the AI Function in xTool’s Creative Space App
Open Creative Space and in the AI search function type “cute frog with a crown” and press generate.
Select your image and export to canvas.
Next, click the “trace object” button and adjust the thresholds to create a rough tracing of the frog. This will get rid of the extra objects around the image.
Save the image. This will create a layer with the original image. Move the original image out of the way, so that the tracing is visible and remove any excess pieces.
Select the tracing and use the “outline tool” to offset the distance. This will generate another layer which you will separate from the tracing.
Delete the tracing image from the canvas and place the outline over the original image, making sure it is the top layer on the design.
Use the “create mask” button to create a mask around the frog design so that the two images merge into one. Create another outline layer (which will be used as the cut line for the xTool.)
Choose the processing type to engrave and choose a filter. We chose the Comic 2 style.
Next, Insert 2 rectangles into the canvas and position them under the frog image and combine them.
Choose a font and insert any text!
Next, choose the material type by clicking “transparent acrylic”
Using an SVG Image
Alternatively, you can use an SVG file and simply upload it to Creative Space. For example, we recently creaed a night light for my niece using this jujitsu design file from Creative Fabrica.
Laser Cutting and Engraving
Once the design is prepared, load the acrylic sheet into the machine (with the protectice sheeting) and secure with the clamps. Set the material type to 3mm transparent acrylic and use the aimed measure function to confirm the thickness.
Open the lis and remove the protective sheeting and then place back on to the slats. Position the design on to acrylic sheet and then hit process.
Remove when engraving and cutting is complete.
Slide your frog into the base and your night light is complete!
