How to Make a Dollar Tree Paddle Sign for Valentine’s
I shared the tutorial for how to make this Valentine’s Day sign on a Facebook reel which you can watch here. Or if you prefer the photo tutorial, continue reading below.
Distressing the Cutting Board
Apply a thin layer of Vaseline on the areas of the cutting board where you want the distressing to occur. You can add it to the edges, corners or throughout the entire board. Then apply a top coat of black paint over the entire board and let dry.

Add another layer of Vaseline over the black paint.

Next, paint over the black paint with white and let dry.

Take a paper towel or clean cloth and start wiping off the spots where the Vaseline was used. This will remove the paint and reveal the black underneath.

Making the Sign
Paint the wooden hearts with pink and gold metallic paint and let dry.

Make a messy bow using ribbon. You can follow the step by step instructions here to see how to make one.

Glue the bow, hearts and any other embellishments onto the cutting board.

A Valentine Easy Win
Crafting your own Dollar Tree paddle sign for Valentine’s is one of those easy wins—low cost, low effort, and high impact. It’s a creative way to enjoy the season, make thoughtful gifts, and add a personal touch to your decor.
And the best part? You can tweak the design every year with new colors and themes. Once you make one, it’s hard to stop!
