Sweet and Simple DIY Crochet Heart Pouches

Hi creative friends! Today, we’re going to show you how to create your own adorable crochet heart pouches with this free crochet pattern using colorful (and inexpensive) t-shirt yarn.

Crochet Heart Pouch Pattern

A while back we shared the pattern for making these crochet hearts using tshirt yarn which we turned into a garland for Valentine’s Day. Making your own tshirt yarn using old tees is a popular way of repurposing clothes you may no longer need. Head over to this post to find out how you can make your own t-shirt yarn using the whole shirt with as little waste as possible.

Join our crafting community to find more nature-inspired DIYs and upcycled craft ideas. It feels good to repurpose, upcycle and create with nature!

And since the hearts turned out so well, we decided to modify the pattern to make these small crochet heart pouches for my nieces.

I’ll fill them with candy coated chocolate treats and give them as handmade gifts for Easter. We also have this round up of top 20 t-shirt yarn projects to make that we’re certain you’ll find inspiring!

How to Make Crochet Heart Pouches

Place one tshirt yarn heart over the other together, matching up the stitches as much as possible.

At the 6th stitch from the middle notch, join the two hearts together with a slip stitch.

Simply pull a loop through both heart layers…

…and chain 1.

Single crochet in next space through both layers.

Continue with the single crochets to the tip of the heart.

In the space at the tip of the heart, add 2 sc. This will keep the pouch from puckering at the bottom.

Continue with the single crochet up the side of the heart.

Stop when you are at the 6th space from the notch.

Chain 10 to form the straps of the pouch.

Join back in to starting single crochet with a slip stitch and fasten off.

And there you go. Adorable pouches to fill with treats and Valentine’s goodies.

If you like, you can crochet a longer strap for the pouch.
