I honestly hadn’t anticipated that my daughter would have such strong preferences about decorating her new bedroom. In a recent room reshuffling we needed to move her from the biggest bedroom to the smallest one. She obviously wasn’t too happy about it. As a compromise, we agreed that we would redecorate her new room together to make it truly her own. We’re happy to share these tween bedroom ideas in teal and pink with you today.
I figured she’d just go with my flow… but no! From the colour of the paint on the wall, to the accessories she wanted to include, she had a pretty strong vision for her room.

Like me, she loves the water and its soothing blues and teals. She’ll spend many hours in the summer pacing by the beach searching for sea glass. From the outset of our project she wanted a teal colour for her walls. Teal can be tricky though – I was worried we’d end up with a seafoam green painted room.
In comes PARA Paints Colour Journeys! PARA is a Canadian-based company which celebrated it’s 100th Anniversary in 2015. The Colour Journeys collection has over 1100 hand-selected colors including 40 Key Whites and 60 Core Colours. As someone who gets quickly overwhelmed with paint colour options, the Colour Journeys website is amazing! Not only are the options presented by themes and colour families, but the Color Visualizer makes it easy to test out different colour options on our walls.
We actually had a lot of fun together exploring different colour options in her room. My computer-savvy little tween figured out how to upload a photo of her bedroom, create the masks and use the program.
Here are some of the options we tried…
In the end she decided upon Tradewinds 113B for her bedroom: a pretty soft teal.
Premium Zero – Zero VOC Paint
Although PARA Paints has a variety of Interior and Exterior paint products, we chose the Premium Zero paint with zero VOCs in an eggshell finish. Since this paint was going into my daughter’s bedroom, I appreciated that she won’t be breathing in extra unnecessary chemicals as she sleeps.
The bedroom is quite small and the paint coverage is fantastic. It only took about ¾ of the can to paint the room with two coats. I think we’ll use the rest to paint her little sisters’ bedroom soon as well.
So, here is her room before the makeover…
And here is where our Colour Journey led us…
We are both so happy with her new bedroom. The Tradewinds blue on the walls was the perfect starting point for accessorizing with shades of bright pink, teals, whites and grays.
The room is bright, colourful and airy without being too childish. And once she’s past the pink stage we’ll easily be able to switch it out for darker grays, deeper teals or simply more whites.
Above the bed I painted a bunch of black frames which I wasn’t using, white. We then mounted some of her beautiful sketches to personalize the room.
I love the overflowing collection of throw pillows in which she’s sure to get lost with a book.
Her little sisters who had occupied the room previously had made a mess of the carpet by spilling nail polish. I picked up this soft and versatile faux sheepskin to cover the disaster – my super silly girl has decided she’ll sleep on it.
To frame the window we added a pretty, sheer curtain in teal and gray on a metal curtain rod with a crystal end. The touch of glam coordinates with her new crystal lamp: the perfect addition for a tween bedroom!
Her baby sister stuffed her new hashtag shelves with her beenie boo collection. 🙂
I thoroughly enjoyed sharing this PARA Paints Colour Journey with my oldest munchkin. I don’t know how much longer she’ll want her mom’s input on decorating, so I’ll take it while I can!
Thank you for joining us in this journey and hope you enjoyed these tween bedroom ideas for a girl. We invite you to explore some of our other bedroom makeovers including our French Country inspired guest bedroom , our Lakeside beach-themed bedroom, our natural bedroom options, and the soothing coastal-style Orchardview bedroom at the cottage.

Are the walls one color or 2 different colors?

Hi Michelle. They are one color - just the shadows make the one wall look darker now that you mention it! Jane

Thank you, Kate! The chandelier was purchased at Lowes but several years ago, it's so cute and perfectly girly for a tween's bedroom!
