Three rocks painted with watercolor inspired pumpkins in gray, orange on teal. The rocks are resting on a dark wood surface.

Fall Painted Rock Ideas

Rock painting continues to be one of our favorite crafts. Over the past years we’ve painted rock sharks, woodland animals, flower rocks and more. Moreover we have a whole collection of over 60 of the best painted rocks to explore!

With fall around the corner, we of course had to try painting some pumpkins. Most beach stones have kind of a pumpkin shape after all!

These painted stone pumpkins were actually inspired by some watercolor pumpkins Jane painted. We turned them into lovely free printable Thanksgiving place cards which you can download.

The little watercolor pumpkin painted rocks are quite easy to paint and only need three colours of paint each. We’ve used them as napkin weights, clustered them together on a shelf or you can even put them in your garden outdoors. It’s just fun trying to paint on a different surface.

I saw on another post about painting rocks that you suggest to bake store bought rocks to melt the coating off. How long does that typically take? I am doing pumpkin rock painting at a class Halloween party.

This brings back childhood memories. I remember doing this as a kid. I am going to see if I can recruit my kids. Thanks for bringing back good memories!!

Our pleasure Grace! My kids were thrilled when I let them use "mommy's paints" in the summer on their own rocks. It was a huge mess. But we'll have their masterpieces to see in the garden at the cottage for years to come. Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving such a lovely comment. We hope you're having a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. -Jane
